On the wall of a prison cell in Zenica penitentiary, it is written:
„If they deceived you badly and filled your breast with severe pain, do not be weak, because life calls you to new feats. Know: Great deeds can be created by one who does not allow himself to be disappointed!“
We would say that the biblical heart in every man is the space from which man as a creature communicates with his Creator. Jesus said, „For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of…“. „A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart.“ (Luke 6:45)
Confirmation of this will be found in the Old Testament, in the election of David as the future king of the Jews. (1 Samuel 16:4-14). Yahweh sends Samuel to Jesse to Bethlehem to anoint one of his sons as king. At that moment, none of his sons present were according to God’s will for the king, and only when Samuel asked if he had any more sons, Jesse answered that he had the youngest David, and he was with their flock. And they called him, and when Samuel saw him, the Lord said unto him, „Rise and anoint him; this is the one.“
The Lord does not look at the things people look at.“People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart“ (1 Samuel 16:7).
If man is disappointed in himself, then it is similar to standing on a solid support and that support disappears. Then comes a state of hopelessness, constant anxiety and mental paralysis, and fear of what will happen next. Have you not noticed that in conversations with people you will very quickly find an expression of disappointment in yourself, in work, the state of society, politics, your homeland… and so on.
This is how the capture of people begins so subtly and sophisticatedly, that people do not even know how they suddenly found themselves ideologically captured. That is why all ideologies „attack“ the biblical heart we talked about earlier. We will see how the proponents of all (especially modern) ideologies aim to distance man from God, as someone who does not exist, by offering this man a new social order that promises much, gives little, and eventually takes everything away.
They forget that man’s spirit was created by God and thirsts for its Creator in its primordial depth.
That is why Jesus’ sentence is quite clear, „So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.“
In the following sequels to this column, we will show all the perniciousness of ideologies.
